HR and Payroll
Scenario: Employee Leave
Manual process
When an employee wants a day off, he consults
his immediate supervisor for approval. If approved,
the leave request is sent to the HR manager. The
HR manager looks up the employee records to check
the leave balance. If leave is granted, HR manager
updates leave records for total leave sanctioned.
The HR department also confirms from the employee’s
attendance records that the approved leave was actually
availed. In case, the approved leave is utilized,
the employee’s records are updated with the
new leave balance.
Issues
Employees have to check on the status of
their requests by email or phone. Employees do not
know with whom the request is pending. Delays in
updating leave balances results in occasional disputes
with employees as to the correctness of the leave
balance.
Automation
The above process can be automated with Skelta by
building in an employee leave request form. Skelta’s
workflow can integrate with the leave database to
display the employee’s leave details when
the employee logs in to make a request. Based on
the organization’s hierarchy and user details
specified in Active Directory, leave requests will
be routed to the employee’s manager. Reminders
can be set if requests are not responded to within
a specified time. The final step in the workflow
would require the HR Manager to confirm that the
employee has availed the leave and then update leave
balances. Skelta workflows can also be integrated
with existing HR systems.
