Skelta gives a sneak preview of Aquila, the next generation BPM and Workflow product.
September
30, 2005 - Skelta
Software announced today that research and development
efforts for Skelta Workflow.NET's next version,
code-named “Aquila” are underway.
With its extensive feature sets, Aquila is designed
to be an end-to-end completely web-based enterprise
BPM solution. The Aquila release promises to
encompass the entire range of BPM functionalities
including process modeling with advanced simulation,
what-if analysis, and adaptive routing.
Skelta Workflow.NET is built
entirely on Microsoft's .NET technology and
features high integration capabilities with
Microsoft products like SharePoint Server/Services,
InfoPath, BizTalk Server and Content Management
Server. Skelta's CEO, Sanjay Shah said, "Being
an early adopter of new Microsoft technologies
is a cornerstone of our technology strategy.
We hope to leverage on the Windows Workflow
Foundation architecture to deliver an even more
flexible and robust workflow framework. Working
on Windows Workflow Foundation will allow us
to focus more effectively on expanding our product
suite to an end-to-end BPM solution. For instance,
we will now be able to provide new functionality
such as Simulation, Live Debugging, Rich Analysis
tools, and complete support for web, win forms
and mobile devices. Skelta is probably the only
vendor who will continue to provide tools for
developers and ISVs, for rapid integration of
workflow in their applications, as well as Enterprise
Customers looking for ready-to-go, enterprise-class
BPM functionalities to enable information workers
to design, participate and analyze workflows
on a continuous basis. All this on Windows Workflow
Foundation as a core platform.”
Explaining Skelta’s strategy
and response to Windows Workflow Foundation,
Mr. Shah said, “We see Windows Workflow
Foundation as an exciting opportunity to extend
our product to the rest of the BPM space. WWF
will allow us to focus more on providing value-added
BPM features rather then core platform needs.”
Seeking to dispel developer
concerns that Skelta will no longer be available
as a workflow development framework when WWF
is released, Mr. Shah said, “Our research
into WWF has given us sufficient reasons to
believe that WWF would increase rather than
diminish our relevance as a provider of workflow
development components. Although WWF does offer
core OS level workflow features, it does require
considerable development efforts to make available
sophisticated workflow features to information
workers. With Aquila, Skelta will continue to
address developer needs for a readily deployable
workflow framework. Aquila, like Skelta Workflow.NET
will also be available both as a Rapid Process
Integration Framework for ISVs and solution
developers and as an Enterprise BPM suite for
enterprise customers. “
According to Skelta’s
CEO, Aquila’s release is planned to coincide
with the release of Windows Workflow Foundation.
Existing customers of Skelta would be provided
a complete migration path to seamlessly transition
to Aquila. Skelta is also expected to announce
new licensing models for ISV’s/solution
developers of Aquila.
Skelta, which has workflow
solutions that readily integrate with SharePoint,
Content Management Server and other Microsoft
products, would extend this integration to Aquila.
Aquila would offer complete support for Office
12, including InfoPath Server.
